CHAMPS

Central Highlands Area Model Plane Society

The Central Highlands Area Model Plane Society (CHAMPS) was formed by a group of model plane enthusiasts in May 1994.  The club initially flew models in a paddock in Newham, then for a while at Hanging Rock.  An excellent field was finally located in 1998 at Metcalfe, where we enjoy acres of safe flying on a private property with a small club house and facilities.

Club members vary in age and diverse backgrounds and come from all over Macedon and neighbouring Shires.  The club is fully incorporated and associated with the two relevant governing bodies; the Victorian Model Aeronautical Association (VMAA) and the Model Aeronautical Association Inc (MAAA).  The MAAA establishes the regulations and safety requirements as well as providing the important insurance cover to ensure that members and the public are covered in case of accidental damage.  Club members include instructors who are qualified to teach and certify new members and provide Heavy Model permits.

Members own a variety of models from aerobatic electric and gas powered planes, helicopters and gliders, the choice of model being entirely up to the member. The club has met regularly since 1994 on the first Friday of each month at the Newham Mechanics Hall.  If you are interested in learning about model making and flying please contact:

Secretary      Roger Rugless        5427 0100

Treasurer      Ian Miller                  5427 0478

Club members have one common bond and that is our interest in building and flying various types of model aircraft.  We also strongly believe in that wise saying attributed to Socrates (although not authenticated) that 'the man who dies with the most toys wins!'
